The 2012 Cherry Blossom Festival Committee and the City of Monterey Park are pleased to present the 15th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival on April 21 & 22, 2012 at Barnes Park, located at 350 S. McPherrin Avenue; Monterey Park, CA. Entry to the Festival is FREE.

Planned and coordinated by community volunteers, the Cherry Blossom Festival strives to provide a cultural arts event that offers a forum for learning, entertainment, fun, and support of community. So take the time to see, hear, and taste a bit of the Japanese and Japanese American culture through a first-hand experience of watching traditional Japanese dancing, hearing the resounding beats of the taiko drums, observing the mastery and various skills of martial arts, participating in the ancient art of the tea ceremony, or buying hand-made crafts or food with an Asian flair. Other highlights of the Festival include games & crafts for children, and numerous cultural displays.

What The Foam?! The 5k Foam Fest is the newest and craziest race to hit the nation! Smiling and running don't usually go hand in hand but the 5K Foam Fest is an amazing mix of foam, mud and obstacles thus making fitness fun.
Whether you like it dirty or clean the 5k Foam Fest has something for everyone. Imagine the excitement of a mud run combined with foam, ginormous inflatable obstacles, army crawls, foam, colossal walls, mud pits, cargo net climbs, foam, body washer, moon walk, foam, slip'n slides and water obstacles (did we mention foam). The 5k Foam Fest is a fun and exciting challenge for the experienced and beginner runners alike. The 5k Foam Fest makes exercising an absolute party for you and your friends.

Two Roads Theater offers small blackbox performances in the heart of Studio City. The 60-seat theater is known for its boundary-pushing productions with professional sets and engaging performances. Patrons warn that many performances sell out in advance, so advance tickets are recommended. In addition to theatrical productions, Two Roads is home to comedy shows, film screenings, concerts, workshops, and private parties. The theater also hosts the annual Valley Film Festival. Established in 1985, the theater was recently refurbished to accommodate upgraded lighting, sound, and video systems, making it a preferred location for private screenings and party rentals. Audience members love the community spirit of the small theatre, and the accessibility to the nearby amenities of Tujunga Avenue, including restaurants, cafes, and bars. Wilacre Park in Studio City offers hiking opportunities for locals looking to stretch their legs and get out of dodge for a few hours. The 128-acre park in Fryman Canyon provides breathtaking views of Studio City and the surrounding neighborhoods. Hikers note that though the trail starts off steep, it quickly turns into a wide, easy, well-shaded walking path that is popular with families, dog-walkers, and bicyclists. Serious hikers will appreciate that Wilacre Park connects to longer and more challenging trails, but novices especially love that the main trail loops back around to the starting point, making it a failsafe option for those lacking confidence in their hiking skills. Though less crowded than some other popular hiking trails in LA, Wilacre Park still attracts plenty of visitors, especially on weekends, and regulars caution that parking can be tough to find, so be prepared to pay the nominal fee and park in the park's lot.

The Griffith Observatory, located in Griffith Park, has a free astronomy museum and offers visitors a free glimpse at the cosmos through their super Zeiss telescope.
Tip: Get in line before dark if you want a look at the night sky, especially in summer. They close the line at a certain number of people.
